Coal Creek home fire killed pets, injured firefighter

Several pets died and a firefighter was injured in a structure fire on Thursday in Coal Creek Canyon.

Neighbors saw the fire in the 11000 block of Vonnie Claire Road shortly after 11 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the home, they found that the main living area was fully involved, according to Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District Chief Garret Ball.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas of the home and surrounding trees, Ball said. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is still being investigated.

The injured firefighter, who works for the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District, was treated at a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Timberline Fire Protection District, Jefferson County Sheriff‘s Office, American Medical Response, United Power and the Multi-Agency Fire Investigation Team also responded to the scene.
